Do I need a licensed plumber for a bathroom renovation?
Yes — any work behind tiled walls, on shower and bath drainage, on toilet connections, or on hot/cold pipework requires a BPC-licensed plumber under Victorian law. Bathroom work also requires a waterproofing membrane installed to AS 3740 — non-compliant waterproofing is the most common cause of bathroom defect claims.
Can you coordinate with my tiler and waterproofer?
Yes — bathroom timing matters because rough-in plumbing has to be in before waterproofing, and waterproofing has to be inspected before tiling. We attend at the right point in the sequence and check the waterproofer's work meets AS 3740 before we sign off our own.
What if you find unexpected issues behind the wall?
We stop, photograph the issue, give you a separate written quote for the extra work, and only continue once you approve. Common surprises in older Melbourne bathrooms: galvanised pipework that needs replacement, asbestos sheet behind tiles, and stack vents that don't meet current standards.
Will I get a Compliance Certificate at the end?
Yes. Every bathroom plumbing job we complete ends with a BPC Compliance Certificate covering the new and altered work. Insurers, conveyancers and strata committees ask for that certificate when something later fails or at sale settlement.
