Bidet Installation Melbourne

Adding an electric bidet seat to an existing toilet, installing a standalone bidet pan, or fitting a non-electric water-only bidet attachment? we handle bidet installation across Melbourne's east, south-east, inner-east and bayside suburbs. Most installs complete in one visit, water supply, isolation tap, electrical considerations (for heated/electric models), and Compliance Certificate where the work requires it. We install the major Australian-supplied bidet brands.

Bidet Types in Melbourne: What Each Needs to Install

Three categories of bidet account for almost every Melbourne install. The electric heated seat (Coway, Toto Washlet, USPA) replaces the existing toilet seat and connects to the cistern's water supply plus a 240V GPO, needs an isolation tap, a flexible water supply line, and a powerpoint within reach. The water-only attachment (Brondell, GoBidet, Tushy) fits between the existing seat and pan, connects to the cold water supply only, and is usually a 30-minute install with no electrical work. The standalone bidet pan (Caroma, Roca) is a separate floor-mounted fixture that needs water supply and waste connection, like installing a second toilet, the bigger job. Prime Plumbing & Gasfitting quotes for the type after confirming the bathroom layout supports the chosen install.

Why Bidet Installation in Victoria Needs a Licensed Plumber

Connection to the water supply or sanitary drainage is licensed plumbing work in Victoria, including for bidet attachments and seats. The DIY appeal of "it's just a hose" misses the licensing requirement and creates insurance and warranty problems. An unlicensed bidet install that floods a bathroom is not covered by your home insurance. The seat manufacturer's warranty often requires evidence of licensed install for the warranty to be honoured. Our licence number appears on every quote, invoice and any Compliance Certificate. The cost difference between a licensed install and a DIY attempt is usually less than the cost of the bidet seat itself.

Bidet Install Done Right

Pre-Install Suitability Check

Before any unit is purchased we can check the bathroom for suitability, water pressure at the cistern (low pressure can stop electric seats from operating correctly), isolation tap availability (or where a new one needs fitting), GPO distance for electric models, and floor or wall framing for standalone pans. The check is a single visit and avoids buying a unit that does not fit.

Backflow Protection Where Required

Some bidet types require backflow protection on the cold water supply to prevent contamination of potable water during operation. AS/NZS 3500.1 specifies the protection device. Prime Plumbing & Gasfitting installs the right device for the bidet model, usually a small inline check valve, sometimes an air-gap or RPZD device for higher-risk applications.

Compliance Certificate for New Connections

Where the bidet install requires a new connection to the water supply or sanitary drainage above the threshold, a BPC Compliance Certificate is lodged the same day. Most electric-seat retrofits are below the threshold (existing supply, no drainage change), so a certificate is not required, but the install is still done to code, and the work is documented for warranty purposes.

What's Included in Our Bidet Install

Pre-Visit Confirmation

On the booking call we confirm the bidet type, brand and model, the bathroom location, and whether you have already purchased the unit. Photos of the existing toilet, the area around it, and the nearest GPO help shortcut the install scope.

On-Site Pre-Install Check

On arrival we test water pressure at the cistern, confirm isolation tap location, verify GPO distance for electric models, and check the toilet's bowl shape for seat compatibility. If the bidet has a non-standard cleat or non-elongated bowl mismatch, we identify before opening the box.

Install Work

For electric seats: remove existing seat, fit new mounting plate, connect water supply via isolation tap and flexible braided line, plug into GPO, configure unit, run through cycle test. For water-only attachments: fit between existing seat and pan, T-piece into cistern supply, run through cycle test. For standalone pans: water supply, waste connection, floor-fix, seal, run-test.

Test and Configure

Multiple cycle tests at all functions, wash, dry, seat heat, deodoriser (where fitted). Check for any drip at the supply line connection. For electric models, the user manual is walked through with the homeowner so the remote control or side panel is understood before we leave. Defaults are set for sensible starting positions.

Sign-Off and Warranty Pack

Where Compliance is required, the certificate is lodged. The installation receipt and warranty card are prepared as a single PDF for the homeowner, useful for the manufacturer's warranty registration. We also provide the maintenance schedule for the model (most need an annual filter clean or descale).

What to Do Before the Plumber Arrives

Bidet installs are usually quick when the prep is done. The four steps below help us complete most jobs in a single visit.

Have the Unit Ready (or Confirm Suitability First)

If you have already bought the bidet, have the box, the manual and any wall-template stickers available at the visit. If you have not bought yet, book Prime Plumbing & Gasfitting for a suitability check first, we can confirm the toilet shape, water pressure and electrical access support the model you are looking at, then you buy with confidence.

Check Water Pressure

Many electric seats need at least 70 kPa water pressure at the cistern to operate correctly. Some Melbourne suburbs (especially older inner-east suburbs with original water mains) sit at the lower end of this. If you suspect low pressure, mention it on the booking, we test on site and discuss options if a pressure-boost valve is needed.

Confirm GPO Distance for Electric Seats

Most electric bidet seats come with a 1.2-1.5m power lead. The nearest GPO to the toilet should be within that range. If it is further, you will need an electrician to install a closer GPO before the install, Prime Plumbing & Gasfitting can coordinate timing with your electrician where helpful.

Clear the Toilet Area

Move the toilet brush, bath mats, bins and any storage near the toilet before we arrive. Saves time on access setup. If the bathroom is small, having the cistern lid clear (no stored items on top) helps especially for electric-seat installs that need to access the cistern supply.

Bidet Installation Melbourne FAQs

Water-only attachment install is at the cheaper end (under an hour, no electrical work). Electric seat install is mid-range (existing GPO required, isolation tap install, flexible supply line). Standalone bidet pan install is highest (water and drainage work, secure floor fixing, sealing). Prime Plumbing & Gasfitting quotes a fixed price after confirming the bathroom is ready and the bidet type is chosen.

Most modern Melbourne bathrooms add a bidet to the existing toilet, either an electric heated seat or a water-only attachment. Standalone bidet pans are still installed but they take additional floor space and need their own waste connection, which usually only suits new builds and full bathroom renovations. The retrofit-to-existing-toilet path is the common Melbourne choice.

The plumbing connection (water supply T-piece into the cistern line) is licensed plumbing work in Victoria. Electrical considerations on heated models add another layer. DIY install voids the home insurance position on any related water damage and may void the manufacturer's warranty. For a 1-2 hour licensed install, the protection is worth it.

Electric bidet seats include heated water, heated seat, warm-air dryer, deodoriser, and remote-control or side-panel operation. They need a nearby GPO and have higher unit cost. Water-only bidet attachments use ambient cold water from the cistern supply with simple lever or knob operation. Lower cost, no electrical needed, simpler maintenance, but no heat or dryer features. The right choice depends on use case and budget.

Water-only attachments work over a wide pressure range and are usually fine. Electric seats often specify minimum pressure (70-100 kPa), below that, the wash spray is weak. Some older Melbourne inner-east properties on original mains sit at the lower end. Prime Plumbing & Gasfitting tests pressure on the suitability check and recommends a pressure-boost valve where needed.

Some types do, depending on the unit's hydraulic configuration. AS/NZS 3500.1 specifies the requirement. Prime Plumbing & Gasfitting fits the right protection device, usually a small inline check valve for residential bidets, occasionally a more substantial RPZD device for commercial or higher-risk applications. The device costs little and protects potable water from contamination.

Yes, bidets significantly improve toileting independence for elderly, post-surgery, mobility-limited and disability-services clients. Prime Plumbing & Gasfitting installs to the same standards used in healthcare and aged-care facilities. For NDIS-funded installs we provide invoices in the format that suits the participant's plan-management.

Yes, remove the existing unit, install the new one, dispose of the old. Where the new unit has different mounting points or supply requirements, we adapt during the install. For electric-seat upgrades, the existing power and water supply usually carries over with minor adjustments.
